Apple Valley Dog Park temporarily closed for turf maintenance
The Apple Valley Dog Park will close for two months beginning April 28, to re-establish turf areas.
Originally slated to be completed in two stages to avoid a full closure of the popular amenity, large and small dogs have been sharing half the park in alternating blocks of time.
However, both sides of the dog park share an irrigation system that prevents automatic watering of each side individually. Closing both sides will allow the park to be watered using the automatic timers to allow for undisturbed seed germination and establishment of the turf. Previously, Town staff had to manually water the turf.
“We know that this may be an inconvenience to the many patrons who enjoy this park daily, but ultimately this will improve the park as a whole in a more timely manner,” said Parks and Recreation Manager Ralph Wright.
In the meantime, dogs on leashes are welcome at all Apple Valley parks.
Located in Civic Center Park behind Town Hall and the Aquatic Center, adjacent to the playground, the Apple Valley Dog Park was the first off-leash play area for dogs in the High Desert. It features benches, and water fountains for both people and pets.
