CCU 2014

Teen Zone is a volunteer organization for teens ages 13-17. The goal of the Teen Zone program is to provide teens with the opportunity to get involved with their community through positive and productive volunteer experiences, while providing the Town of Apple Valley Recreation Department programs with quality volunteer assistance. The Teen Zone program also assists with preparing teens for a job, career, or college. Volunteer service hours can be listed on job applications, college applications, and can sometimes be applied towards earning school credit.

There are currently 40 active members of Teen Zone, 20 of which have earned over 100 hours of volunteer service and been honored by the Mayor at a Town Council meeting. Volunteers have earned these hours by volunteering at special events such as Easter Eggstravaganza, Kiddie Carnival and recreation programs such as Adventures in Pee Wee Sports or Day Camp. Volunteers also assist the Special Events department and the Apple Valley Library with various events through-out the year.

The Teen Zone program offers several different types of awards and recognition. Once a Teen Zone member has reached 20 hours they receive a Teen Zone t-shirt. After completing 100 hours they are presented with a framed certificate at a Town Council meeting, and members reaching 300 hours are awarded a special trophy at a Teen Zone meeting. At the end of each quarter 3 gift cards are awarded for best attendance, most hours, and most helpful. All volunteers are invited to attend a special end of quarter party.

To apply to be a member of Teen Zone please click here to print out the Teen Zone application. Return the completed application to the Town Hall Recreation Department on 14955 Dale Evans Parkway. The Teen Zone coordinator will contact all teens who have turned in an application to invite them to a 2 hour Volunteer Orientation. All new teens must attend an orientation before they attend a meeting. If you have any questions contact Alicia Dannelley at adannelley@applevalley.org or (760) 240-7000 ext. 7891.
