Employee Benefits

We provide various benefits for employees and their families. These include medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, plus optional extras. Benefits depend on job status, hire date, and plan choice.

Full-Time Employee Benefits
• 457 (b) Deferred Compensation Program Available
• 9/80 Work Schedule
• CalPERS Retirement formula of 2% @ 55 – Employee contribution 7% with prior qualifying public
service
• CalPERS Pension Reform formula for new participants effective 1/1/13 – 2 % @ 62 – Employee
contribution 7.75%
• Health Benefits – $1,210 per month toward medical, dental, and vision insurance. Additional dollar for
dollar match, up to $340, for additional premium costs.
o Medical and prescription Drug Coverage via CalPERS Health
o Dental HMO and PPO via Delta Dental

• Retiree Health Savings Plan
o The RHS Plan enables employees to save in advance for costs relating to medical expenses
once they retire. The Town contributes .5% of base wages into each full-time employee’s
account with vesting occurring immediately and employees contribute .5% tax-free
contributions into their account to total 1% contribution each pay period.

Professional/Supervisory Classifications

• Automobile allowance of $400 per month, if approved.
Executive Management Classifications
• 80 Hours of Administrative Leave (per fiscal year)

Hiring Process

We only accept applications for open positions. Resumes will only be accepted with a complete application. Open positions are posted on the Jobs webpage. They are also in the lobby of Town Hall and the Development Services Building.

We only accept applications for advertised positions. Submit completed applications to the Human Resources Department. Make sure to send them by the closing date and time on the job flyer.

Once a position has closed, you may expect the following:

  • An email or phone call from our Human Resources Department within 1 month of the closing deadline.
    • You will receive a phone call if you have been selected to move forward in the recruitment
      process
    • You will receive an email if you are not selected to move forward with the recruitment
      process.
  • Depending upon the position, The next recruitment step may include:
    • Supplemental Exam
    • Supplemental Questionnaire
    • Oral Interview
  • A list of the best fit will be made after the interviews.
    • Any candidate on the list will remain on the list for 6 months. At the Town’s discretion, list expiration may be extended up to one year from the interview date.
    • If a position opens up, the Town will contact candidates on the list for the next steps.
The Onboarding Process

If the Town offers you a position, you can expect this during the onboarding process:

  • A background check that includes finger printing.
  • Pre-employment physical
    • Some positions may require a drug screen and/or a Tuberculin skin test.
  • Some positions may require certifications as a condition of employment
    • Things like: CPR & First Aide, Lifeguard certification, Class B license, etc
  • Submit documents that show your proof of your right to work in the United States. The Town of Apple Valley participates in the E-Verify program.
Hiring Tips
  • Allow enough time to submit a complete application. The application process may take a while. Gather all necessary information, like education and employment details, before applying. Doing this can help make the application process smoother for you.
