Sent Bill 1383, also known as SB1383 is reducing short-lived climate pollutants in
California, is a state law that became effective January 1, 2022, and sets aggressive targets for Californians to reduce organic (food and green/landscape) waste disposal by 75% by 2025 and increase edible food recovery by 20% by 2025. This is part of a state-wide effort to reduce emissions of short-lived climate pollution like methane, which is considered a super pollutant 85 times more potent than carbon dioxide. Organic waste in landfills emits 20% of the state’s methane.

When is the Household Hazardous Waste. facility open?
The H.H.W. (Household Hazardous Waste) facility is open every Saturday from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M., except on holidays.
Where is the Household Hazardous Waste facility located?
The facility is located at 13450 Nomwaket Road, south of Powhatan.
Are there any limits on the number of hazardous materials I can drop off?
Yes, there is a 15-gallon maximum limit for hazardous liquid materials and a 125-pound maximum limit for hazardous solid materials, divided into containers no larger than 5 gallons.
Can I dispose of business waste, biohazardous waste, or radioactive waste at the Household Hazardous Waste facility?
No, the facility only accepts household waste. Business waste, biohazardous waste, and radioactive waste are not accepted.
How can I dispose of bulky items like mattresses and large appliances?

What is the small trash can for?
Are you wondering what the small trash can is for? Residents are encouraged to compost materials such as yard waste, kitchen scraps, and newspapers. Composting helps reduce waste and produces quality compost for gardens. The town supports these efforts by providing free compost or mulch to the community.

As of 2024, the High Desert Food Collaborative includes 107 local groups. These include:

-And college food pantries.
Groups that run food programs pick up extra supplies from High Desert Second Chance Food Bank. They do this weekly, every other week, or monthly—depending on their schedule.
