ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The Town of Apple Valley is proud to recognize the brave men and women who have served or are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces through the Hometown Heroes Military Banner Program.

This program honors local service members by displaying commemorative banners around Town. Each banner serves as a visible tribute to the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of the individuals who have defended our country and are part of the Apple Valley community.

Who Can Be Honored?

Active-Duty Service Members – Individuals currently serving in any branch of the United States Armed Forces, including:

  • Navy
  • Air Force
  • Marine Corps
  • Coast Guard
  • National Guard
  • Space Force

Eligibility requirements

Active‑duty service members are eligible if they currently serve in the United States Armed Forces and meet the following requirements:

  • Must currently serve in the U.S. Armed Forces
  • Must be a current Apple Valley resident or have an immediate family member living in Apple Valley

Veterans are honorably discharged service members who served in the United States Armed Forces and meet the following requirements:

  • Must have received an honorable discharge
  • May be living or deceased
  • Must have a current or previous residency in
  • Apple Valley or, has a strong connection to the community

This category also includes service members who died in the line of duty. Gold Star Families are welcome and encouraged to participate.

Banner & Program Details

Each Hometown Heroes banner features a photo of the service member, their name, and branch of military service. Banners are professionally printed on durable, weather‑resistant material and displayed on designated light poles throughout the Town of Apple Valley. Thanks to Town funding, there is no cost to participate; however, banner space is limited and applications are accepted on a first‑come, first‑served basis once approved.

How to Participate

The Hometown Heroes Military Banner Program is a meaningful way for the Town of Apple Valley to recognize the service and sacrifice of those who have served our nation. Residents are invited to participate by completing the application form below; if selected, applicants must provide the required materials to honor a local hero who has made our community proud.

Required Information

  • A high‑resolution photo of the service member (preferably in uniform)
  • Verification of military service (DD214, military ID, or other documentation)

    Important Dates

    • Application Deadline: March 31, 2026
    • Banner Display Period: May 16, 2026 – November 11, 2026
