The Town of Apple Valley held its first Measure P Oversight Committee meeting on Tuesday, May 6. It took place in the Town Council Chambers. This group was created to make sure the Town spends Measure P money the right way. Measure P is a 1% sales tax increase that voters approved.
At the meeting, members took their oaths, picked a Chair and Vice-Chair, and learned about the Town’s budget and Measure P funds. One big topic was a plan to add more law enforcement staff. Apple Valley Police Captain Tim Visosky shared the idea.
The plan includes:
- 1 Sergeant
- 8 Deputies:
- 2 for the Mobile Enforcement Teams (M.E.T.)
- team (to handle things like illegal cannabis and homeless camps)
- 1 for Driving Under the Influence (D.U.I.) enforcement
- 1 Acting Detective (to help with training and promotions)
- 4 patrol deputies
- 1 Sheriff’s Service Specialist
The committee voted to support the plan. They will send their suggestion to the Town Council.
“This committee speaks for our residents,” said Mayor Scott Nassif. “Measure P passed because people wanted better public safety, roads, and services. The committee will help make sure the money is used the way voters wanted.”
Captain Visosky added, “This plan will help us respond faster, cover more areas, and make Apple Valley safer. Measure P lets us improve our services, and this is a good first step.”
The meeting also included a lesson on the Brown Act. This helps members understand rules about public meetings.
Measure P was passed in 2024 to fund important Town services. The Oversight Committee will often meet to check how the money is used and share updates with the community.
