Clean, Green, Together
The Town is proud to present the Clean, Green, Together program, to help our community reduce, reuse, recycle and renew in order to lessen our impact on the environment. In addition to the daily things we do at Town Hall, like using two sides of the paper, maintaining separate recycle bins in each office, and distributing reports electronically, we also offer a number of programs for our residents.
The following are just a few of our events and programs:
- Household Hazardous Waste
- Adopt A Street and Adopt A Trail
- Community Cleanup Day
- Solid waste management
- Mojave Desert & Mountain Recycling
- Commerical & Household Recycling
- Mojave River Watershed Group - Stormwater Pollution Prevention
- Material Recovery Facility (MRF)
Apple Valley also has policies and philosophies that assure we are being good stewards of the environment. For example, as part of the General Plan, we are developing a Habitat Conservation Plan for the Town and the entire Sphere of Influence, covering over 200 square miles. The plan will address compliance issues related to the Endangered Species Act and the environmental review process required by state and federal agencies. Those wishing to develop vacant property will know up front what measures need to be taken to mitigate impacts to certain species, while still allowing development to occur.
Little things count to help keep our community green. Do you turn the water off while you brush your teeth? Do you recycle paper, bottles and cans? Do you have a compost bin or native landscaping? Does your business have a recycling account? Look around, you’ll probably be surprised at how green you already are! If we all do a little we can make a big difference.
