Follow these steps to develop your own Family Emergency Preparedness Plan.

  • Know who to call!
    Out of state emergency contact. In the event of a localized disaster, local phone lines could be down or circuits full while out of area lines are working. Make sure family members know the name and number of your emergency contact

  • Know where to meet!
    Plan to meet. Have an agreed place to reunite the family after an emergency, such as near the mailbox, or even at the home of a family member or friend.

  • Utility shut offs!
    Shutting off utilities. Know where and how to shut off the utilities in an emergency. DO NOT shut off the natural gas at the meter unless you are certain there is a gas leak. Shut off electricity if wires are shorting out or sparking.

  • Pack your emergency kits!
    Emergency KitsMake sure every family member has clothes and shoes packed and ready to grab at a moment's notice for an evacuation.

  • Stock emergency supplies!
    Emergency Supplies. Have enough food and water to last your family for 10 days in case of emergency.

  • Stay informed!
    Tune in to the local emergency alert station: KZXY 102.3FM for current news and instructions.
